SKIP UCL organise a summer project in Pakalinding, The Gambia.

About the branch:

SKIP UCL is based in University College London in Central London. In 2018 the branch ran a research project in the Gambia, West Africa, to search for a collaborating organisation. SKIP UCL decided to partner with an NGO known as The Green Trust; as part of the collaboration, the branch is aiming to address issues surrounding maternal health, migration and nutrition.

This summer, members of the branch conducted a needs assessment trip visiting The Green Trust in The Gambia to see what issues should be the focus of the partnership, and to assess the feasibility of a future project. Throughout this academic year, the branch will be using the information from this trip to plan interventions which will be implemented in the summer of 2020. The branch will also get involved with fundraising activities, as well as aiming to raise awareness of both their work and The Gambia by holding speaker events and promoting sustainable ways of volunteering abroad while avoiding voluntourism.
