SKIP Belfast are working towards running a needs assessment project in Perkata, Malayasia.

About the branch:

SKIP Belfast’s project is based in Kuching, Malaysia, partnered with Perkata Special School, a school attended by children with various intellectual disabilities. Since 2016, SKIP Belfast ran a project with Perkata Special School targeting nutrition. The project was carried out at a school called Perkata Special School. Following a hiatus, SKIP Belfast are ecstatic to announce that this year they will be returning to Perkata to continue their project. The committee is currently focusing on conducting a needs assessment of the local community in order to plan a suitable interventions.

Activities so far this academic year include:-

  • Increasing campus presence during fresher fair at Queen’s University Belfast

  • Election new committee members

  • Welcome dinner for new committee members

This academic year, the branch will be running:-

  • An introductory talk for volunteers

  • A recruitment drive for volunteers

  • Fundraising projects (to be announced on Facebook and Instagram pages)

  • Volunteer Training

  • A needs assessment project in Malaysia (summer 2020)
