General Assembly!

GA

The SKIP General Assembly is fast approaching and here is everything you need to know …
When? 22-23rd April
Where? Southampton
Why come? You get a chance to engage in the governance of SKIP – it’s where all the big changes happen and has a big impact on what happens within SKIP.
You also get to elect your new National Committee and Mentors.
It is mandatory for at least 1 member of each Branch to attend, but aside from that I would massively recommend people to come . . . it is great fun!

DEADLINE: 14th April

Have a look at the Bylaws (updated 27th March 2016) … If there is anything which you feel has been difficult this year, or could just work better, you may want to propose a change to our Bylaws.
If you would like to do this you will need to complete this Bylaw Submission Form. You can propose to change the Bylaws in several ways:
  • If you would like to adopt a bylaw please complete the ‘New Bylaws’ sheet
  • If you would like to amend a bylaw please complete the ‘Bylaw Amendments’ sheet
  • If you would like to remove a bylaw please complete the ‘Removal of Bylaws’ sheet.
If you wish to propose to adopt/amend/remove a bylaw you will need to complete the attached form and send it to trustees@skipkids.org.uk by Monday 10th April.
I will then add the motion to the agenda for discussion. At the GA you will need to present your submission with a short rationale.

Big Weekend Fun!

Thank you to everyone who came to our fantastic Big Weekend in Glasgow! We had excellent training tracks, a Global Health workshop on Global Mental Health, Branch Presentations, Role and Branch Networking and an inspiring Keynote Speaker from the NGO Women and Children First UK! That, combined with a fantastic night on Saturday, with our annual BlueBoys Awards, a meal and a ceilidh – we’ve had an excellent time!! We hope all our members feel inspired and motivated ready to move into our period of summer projects! #SKIPBW17

Training New Trainers 2017

tnt

We are now recruiting for the Training New Trainers weekends!

This is an interactive two day course to help you become a qualified SKIP trainer. After the weekend course you need to deliver one training session within the next 6 months, which is usually at the next national conference (Spring Big Weekend on the 4th/5th March at Glasgow University), to gain your SKIP trainer status.

You have plenty of opportunity and support to develop your session over the course of the TNT, and there are many other opportunities throughout the year to train. These weekends are a brilliant opportunity to gain confidence and build training skills, and it is a course that has received great feedback from previous participants.

After this the sky is the limit! Your trainer status allows you to train locally, regionally and nationally within SKIP, and potentially with other organisations such as Medsin. It is highly useful in your professional life, and it also helps you stand out on a CV.

Sign up below – deadline for sign ups are on the 16th Feb 2017 and we can only take 12 participants for each.

Southern TNT: 18th and 19th Feb – Cardiff University

Northern TNT: 25th and 26th Feb- Newcastle University

The SKIP Global Award

global-award-17

The SKIP Global Award gives the opportunity for SKIP members to reflect on an experience that relates to a topic in global health.

Submissions can range from short essays, blogs, a photo or even a piece of artwork. For written pieces, the word limit is 500 words and submissions should be sent to globalaward@skipkids.org.uk.

The winner will be judged by a panel of SKIP members and announced at Spring Big Weekend in Glasgow. All those who submit a piece will receive a certificate, and the top 3 submissions will be published in SKIP’s annual global health newsletter – ‘SKIP Global’. The winning submission will also be published in Medsin’s annual global health magazine – ‘The Advocate’ – which circulates to thousands of students across the UK.
